Steampunk Necklace for Amy

Description

This is a steampunk necklace that I made as a birthday gift for my wonderful roommate, :iconatomicalaska: It is my first endeavor into steampunk and my second into jewelry, so make of that what you may. :)

Guess what everybody?? It's story time!!!!!! :D :D :D

So two years ago, I was graduating high school and about to enter the summer before college. I was going to be living in a Freshman dorm the coming year, and in addition to this, I was going to be living with a random roommate. I wasn't too nervous about this; I had decided that living with a friend from high school might not be such a good idea for many reasons. I mean, what if I hated living with them? That would ruin our friendship! With a random roommate, there would be no history because we weren't friends so it seemed like the better option. So July came and with it came an email from NAU, containing the name and school-issued email address of the random roommate that I had been assigned. Immediately I searched the name on Facebook, eager to see what my new roommate would be like. I'm gonna be completely honest...I was a little scared by Roommate. Just looking at her profile picture, she had blue hair, and looked like she wasn't somebody that you should cross. She looked tough and intimidating, but never judge a book by its cover right? (Note: Roommate could probably tell her side better, but I later learned that she was none too thrilled by my profile picture, which was of me in a full Harry Potter costume at the Order of the Phoenix midnight showing. Oh, the parallels! XD)

Roommate and I had a very easy-going roomie relationship. Neither of us really did anything that bothered the other, we kept our stuff on our respective sides of the room, and all was well. We certainly weren't BFFs for life, but I really enjoyed Roommates company when we were in the room together. We actually got along very well, and she had a pretty spectacular sense of humor, something that I very much appreciated while taking classes amongst humorless Freshman snobs.

The funny thing is, we both had our own different plans for housing the next year (now this current year), and both of our plans happened to fall through, so the night before housing sign up we just decided to room with one another again next year because it was the easiest, most convenient solution for both of us. And that's how we ended up rooming together again this year.

I can describe this past year as being much akin to a sitcom, where Roommate and I were a pair of unlikely friends getting up to all kinds of shenanigans, sharing lots of laughter, and even a few touching moments. So I guess being assigned a random roommate was one of the best things that I could have done, because it brought me one of the dearest friends that I have ever had. Unfortunately, Roommate and I won't be roommates next year, because I will be living in California. :( I can't believe that our time rooming together is coming to an end...but in a way, it's still ok, because I know I've made a friend for life.

Thank you for everything, Amy. And happy birthday. :)

Oh gawsh! I can't even believe that I didn't see there was this entire story line thing going on below the picture. I had just favourited it and moved along without bothering to notice the lengthy plot of our roomy roomance (Get it? Like roommate/romance HAR HAR). Ooooh lizzlekinz. You're a doll. I absolutely love the necklace by the way. Every time I see it or someone comments it I just want to squeel and smile and brag about how marvelous you are for making it for me. So I do just that. :)
