Toy Story: The Round-Up Gang Cosplay, 2008

One more old cosplay for you all until I start moving on to new stuff!

So every year for the football game that landed closest to Halloween, our normally uncool band director would become slightly cool and allow everybody to dress up in Halloween costumes and march on the field during halftime in costume. It was pretty legit, and I have only seen one other high school in the state do this. Basically, my high school became the envy of the marching band world every time October rolled around. Each section got pretty into the costume thing, and sections would often all dress up on a theme. It got pretty competitive and cut-throat, to the point where even speaking of your section's costume allowed could result in you being shunned, for fear that another section would steal your ideas.

This year I would be a Senior in high school (so I was 17 years old), and I was Section Leader of the Clarinet Section that year. Our section was much bigger than 3 people, and we had the entire Toy Story crew (and we looked EPIC) but I'm just going to focus on the Round-Up Gang. I am Jessie, the Yodelin' Cowgirl! Yodel-a-hee-hoooooo!!!! And right next to me are my compadres, Stinky Pete the Prospector and Sheriff Woody!

I'm really pleased with how well these costumes turned out, my favorite part being (which you, once again, CAN'T SEE DX ) is that in the back, all three of us had actual pull strings that could be pulled and then retracted automatically, so that whenever someone pulled one, we could say one of the character's catch phrases like "There's a snake in my boot!" etc. It was super fun, and needless to say, all three pull strings were broken by the end of the evening, which I consider a success.

I might post a picture of the entire Toy Story'd Clarinet Section someday, but I'm still undecided on that. We did look awesome though-our band actually made up an award-"Best Halloween Costumes"-just to give us at the end-of-the-year band banquet. It was pretty glorious. We also got a standing ovation from the band when we all arrived at school as a group! XD

PS: No, we are not wearing cowboy boots unfortunately. We are wearing our marching shoes-it just made sense, seeing as we still had to march our 15 minute set at halftime. Oh well.
